Green buildings are constructed with the objective of efficiently utilising natural resources and energy in addition to being economical (Freed 2008). In China, green building projects aim at reducing carbon emissions to the environment and decreasing energy consumption because China is a very large country with a huge population. By 2004 in China, only four buildings had been considered satisfactory according to the Green Movement’s requirements. The project was officially commission in April 2012 under the stewardship of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and the Ministry of Finance, with a target of 30% of all new buildings required to be green. Second, the need to reduce the consumption of energy (both operational and transportation) has been the focus requiring carefully selecting construction sites. Freed (2008), acknowledges that the population of the world is exploding very fast. (2009)[Only one reference…would be better if you could show a few more!! ], the following are the key critical success factors (CSFs) involved in green building projects management, appearing in order of priority starting with the most essential: competent project team, authority of the project leader/manager, project understanding, top management support, client involvement, project mission or shared goal, adequate resources, realistic cost and time estimates, information communication, project ownership, performance and feedback monitoring, planning and controlling, risk management, adequate project control, and problem solving abilities.The main factors that hinder the success of green housing projects include design and engineering changes, unexpected inflation, poor estimations, higher scope with low quality and project complexity due to size (Dey 2002). Other hindrances to green building projects especially in developing nations include political and economic instability, scarce resources, relatively unskilled workforces, and low productivity due to wastages (Salleh 2009); poor infrastructure, fraud , government influence, financing , and informal sector’s influence (Salleh 2009).[Why two Salleh (2009)s – are the issues from two different references!!

The environment in China is getting worse because of the high rate of executing construction projects that are not environment friendly[Do you have evidence of this? Perhaps a news article? ]. Therefore, Green building projects have become the trend for future constructions. However, the learning curve in green building project in China is still in the basic level, [I think China has more eco-cities than any other place. ]and management factors [What are they? ]have long believed will highly influence the project success. This project paper will focus on the factors that influence the success of delivering green building projects in China through project management, to identify the critical success factors for green building projects in project management view to fill this gap.

This project paper will first discuss the CSFs in the literature review section, by doing the review of the recent researches to identify factors which will influence the project performance. Moreover, this research will base on those possible factors to do interviews [Who ? Have you got access ?]and questionnaires[Have you got access? ] with senior managers and engineers who work for green building projects in Chinese construction companies and other stakeholders of this kind of project (e.g. government and individuals[What kind of individuals? Why? ]). This aim is to classify which factors will be the CSFs for green building project in China.

1.2 Problem statementWith the improvement of environmental protection consciousness of the world and the increasing number of China's environmental problem.[comma] Green building project or sustainable construction project has long become the future of the construction industry. Effective project management will highly improve the possibility of project success and help to aware risk in a higher degree. To identify the critical success factors for the project will be beneficial to guarantee the effectiveness of management of the project. However, there has been no previous study in China have done this job[are you sure? ]. China as the largest developing country in the world may have different external situation with Western developed countries, and specific requirements for green building project may be had in China as well. 1.3 Professional significance of the studyThis paper[Dissertation ? ] aims at contributing to the existing knowledge on the best ways of achieving timely and cost-friendly delivery of high performance green (HPG) construction or building projects in the light existing struggles to conduct sustainable businesses (Means 2011). This study tries to view HPG in the light of calls for immediate and active participation in the green movement but within the construction industry. This will be unlike most previous studies that have evaded this perspective on the topic due to reasons like the[How are you planning to overcome these obstacles? ] high number of performance variables[What are these? 1.4 Overview of the Research Methodology[This section for now is OK. The findings of this study will be linked to the findings of the literature review relating to this project and trying to promote the performance of those factors combined with the result in recent research, and the findings from the interviews.

1.5 DelimitationThis study has a few limitations. First, it is conducted within China and involves a few companies and individuals. The selected region’s population sampled may not be representative of the world because of dynamics like culture, economy, religion, et cetera that interplay to affect whether or not people choose the option of green buildings. Marketing dynamics affect adoption this construction paradigm because potential interest parties would want evidence of its performance and benefits (Yudelson 2008). Second, the concept of sustainable constructions is still new, and in places, it has been around for some time, it has not been given much attention as to implementing it.
