Due Date: Essay submission: by arrangement (see email) Oral interview: by arrangement (see email) YOUR TASK: Conflict situations are an important aspect of the workplace and working in teams… You will write an essay – the title will be – “Working in a team – “Reasons for conflict within teams and various techniques to solve it” This essay will reflect your understanding of the difficulties of solving conflict within a team. You will research into possible causes of conflict and ways of improving relationships and solving that conflict. The essay is an academic paper and all claims and assertions must be adequately substantiated with appropriate evidence. Any issues and solutions that you raise in your analysis need to be supported with reference to relevant literature. (At least five (5) references will need to be used and cited). The most important aspect of the essay is that it must reflect your own thinking, understanding and possibly experience of conflict within a team, its causes and possible ways of resolving that conflict. More importantly, your essay should reflect content that we have covered in the unit as well as any additional research done. Please be aware of the plagiarism and collusion policies established by FIT and Monash University. Word Limit The essay should be about 2000 – 2500 words (approximately 4 pages, excluding references). Assessments The essay is a hurdle requirement and will be reviewed on the following criteria: • Ability to research and describe (through literature and experience) reasons for conflict within a team • Ability to communicate different and appropriate conflict resolution management techniques • Use of current literature (with adherence to citation and reference standards) • Layout, structure, spelling, etc. and adherence to style guides. (Although this is not an English exercise, there is an expectation that your contents and message can be understood.) If the essay meets these criteria, you will be assessed on the basis of an interview about the topic covered by your essay. The interview will involve questions put to you by one or more staff and you will be assessed on your ability to answer those questions appropriately. The interview should take about 10 minutes.
